Each of our horses has their own unique story that has brought them here and made them who they are.
Duchess is a 2007 Tennessee Walking Horse mare that Ty rescued in 2021 from a kill pen with her 3 day old baby. She came here a very guarded and fearful horse. As her rehab and retraining progressed she proved to be an exceptionally smart and kind partner and you will see her teaching many of our lead line and liberty lessons, as well as some of our more advanced students. She is our "boss mare" and leads her herd well. And, when not given clear and concise instructions, you may find her leading you as well.
Spartan is a 2021 Tennessee Walking Horse/ Warmblood cross. He has a huge personality and can often be found watching lessons, following anyone who enters the pasture around like a dog, and talking to all the horses and people. He was rescued in 2021 with his mama, Duchess, and Ty has hopes to produce him into a high level show horse.
Elsa is a grade (no known breed) pony mare that came to us in 2022. We don’t even know how old she is….maybe 15-20.
She was incredibly fearful of people and we know from her previous owner that she was both abused and neglected before they purchased her. Elsa is currently in training to be a lesson horse.
Gigi is a 2015 Appaloosa mare that joined us early in 2023 to provide lessons here at Barefoot Haven. She sustained an injury in a freak pasture accident which prevented her from competing at the high level that she should have. Gigi will teach many of your lessons and can take you from your very first ride to your very last one. She is a knowledgeable and willing partner!
Athena is a 2015 Thoroughbred mare who never raced as she was bred to be a sport horse. Athena joined us in June 2023 and is currently rehabbing and reconditioning but Ty has known Athena since 2020 and is very excited to have her for our lesson program. Athena has taught lessons and competed at local hunter/jumper shows. Fun fact, Miss Ty used to ride Athena in lessons!
Sally is a 19-20 year old Thoroughbred mare who is here on a care lease from our hay supplier. She joined us in November 2023. She raced, she was a broodmare, she has done some hunter/jumper stuff and some ranch stuff. Other than that we do not know a lot about her. She has an incredibly gentle demeanor and we think she will make an excellent child's lesson horse!
Lou comes to us from the same place as Nobyl and Athena, was in just as poor condition as they were, but her previous owner has worked hard to get her condition back and she comes to us in fairly good shape. Lou joined our herd in November 2023. Lou has many years of teaching lessons under her belt and we are very excited to have her on board!
Johnny was Miss Ty's very first horse that she purchased for $900 at the age of 15 (Johnny was 19). And he was with her through highschool, college, and all of her young adult life until he passed away in December of 2022 at the age of 34. He will always be dearly loved and missed. From taking kids for their first rides to galloping across the hay fields to everything in between. Johnny was everything a Quarter Horse ought to be and was a versatile and gentle soul.
Nobyl joined the Barefoot Haven herd as another rescue in October 2021. He is a 2017 Thoroughbred gelding and his original career was as a racehorse. After a career ending injury Nobyl was passed around a couple times and ended up at a barn that was not providing him with adequate care. Ty brought him here and has been rehabbing and retraining him ever since. Although an ex-racehorse, Nobyl's favorite speed is slow. He adores children and will tote them around as they giggle and squeal all day. Nobyl is also becoming quite proficient in liberty work and always enjoys going for a jog with Ty around the property. Nobyl passed in September 2023 after a hard fought battle with a stomach tumor.
