The answer to our farm name is twofold. The first part of the answer is rather silly. I grew up barefoot. No one could talk me into wearing shoes. My mother always had to keep my tetanus shot up to date!!
To this day you’ll still find me walking around my house, and sometimes even the farm, without shoes on. And I want to create a space where our children can experience a similar freedom- although they will have to wear shoes… nobody wants to get stepped on by a 1200-pound animal, even with shoes on!
The second reason is even more personal. Barefoot Haven. Because most of our horses here are rescues. They have experienced horrific things in their lives.... and our promise to them is that they won't anymore.
Here, our horses always have access to food and clean water. They are turned out on pasture 24/7. And they receive the highest quality supplements to ensure that every need is met. We treat our horses as I believe horses should be treated - like horses and like family.
So, Barefoot Haven, because our first rescue will never wear heavy padded shoes and chains again- although she will always have the scars. Because her colt, our second rescue, will never know even a moment of humans causing him pain. Because our third rescue will always have food; even if he can never be used in the lesson program here as a riding horse. Because this is a safe place for every horse and every human that comes through the gate…
A Barefoot Haven.
